Dear Stair Climbers,
As you probably know, two of our historic staircases (Castle Crunch and Chapel Charge) are closed due to safety issues and Museum Mash (flagstone staircase) is in serious need of restoration. These repairs will be very costly and will require generous grants if they are to be replaced/repaired.
Would you consider sending out a quick note to the City of Hot Springs. Administrator Aerial Allison is preparing an application for Recreational Trails Program grants, to fund work on these historic staircases. As part of the application requirements, letters of support are needed from community partners.
The City would greatly appreciate written support for this project from people like you, who appreciate the value of these stairs to recreation and fitness. Please consider sending an email to City Administrator Aerial Allison at hscityadministrator@hs-sd.org
She would appreciate hearing from you by MARCH 13 to give her time to assemble all comments for submission.
Your message can be as simple as this:
“As a Hot Springs resident [or ‘visitor’], I value the towns’ historic staircases for their beauty and recreational use. I would appreciate any support that Recreational Trails Program can provide to make the restoration of our stairways possible.”
You can, of course, elaborate. In fact, the more personal the better. Challenge Dakota has also submitted a letter of support for the project, which you can read below.

These are some of the winners of the Challenge Dakota Stars, Stripes & Steps Memorial Day stair climbing race. (That's your Race Director in the middle pretending she won all those awards of folks who couldn't make the ceremony.)
